Toronto is one of best cities in the world. I'm not talking about multicultural stuff, but am talking about the city. Toronto is one of high developed city such as Montreal, Vancouber, or Calgary in Canada. In general thought of city for Korean is only high developed stuffs. I can see only huge buildings, fast life, ignorance of all people, and lost cultural stuff in Seoul. But Toronto has broken my stereotype of "city"
I was living in downtown of Toronto but I could enjoy many fun in downtown and nature. There are lots of parks in Toronto area. One of beautiful park 'High park' is just 15~20 min from downtown of Toronto. I have been there when there was Cherry blosom festival in spring. I loved the moment with a lot cherry blosom and huge size of park. It takes almost 30 min from eastbound to westbound. There are some pounds and beautiful paths.
Not so many parks are in Toronto but also harbour is sitting just southbound of Toronto. There is a huge lake called 'Ontario lake' just southbound of Toronto. The amount of size is three times bigger than South Korea....(it's too hard to believe). A lot people enjoy water near harbour such as jet sky, and swimming (water is not really clean, but some Canadian do swim in there). Walking, running, and cyclying on lakeshore is one of envious thing to me. Let's talk about Korea. There are of course lots of parks in Seoul (the biggest city in Korea) but I would like to ask "Have you hung around in parks to enjoy your free time?". I am sure there are many people have done this, but if I consider the population of Seoul, not much people enjoy having fun in parks. It's not safe, and it's dirty. Toronto has huge population in Canada; however, their public place is clean and safe enough. I haven't seen any news about accidents in parks or lakeside. That is how they do care of nature and love to be in nature.
I can say if you go there, you will see how Canadian love nature. So many squirrels were hanging around trees and paths (even you can see lacoon or coyote if you go just outside of GTA). They don't even scared of human, and also people don't care what they do. They are completely living in same world. They are combined.
I was grown up in Seoul and living in Seoul before moved to Canada, so this situation is kind of weird and strange to me.
There was one example what just happened in front of me. I was taking subway to go to Korean town. When I went out from station, one woman was walking forward to garbage can carefully. Her left hand was half up. When she got the garbage can, she dropped a spider from her back hand. It was kind of new. Actually I've never seen that kind of happening when I was in Korea. Almost no one likes insects in Korea (This is what I thought and also I do), but Canadian don't care how it looks scary or urgly. At the moment, I shortly understood what the meaning of loving nature or living nature is.
While I was living in Canada, maybe my way of thinking has been changed. Actually I can't compare it before moved to Canada and now. My life was just hectic. I didn't have any time to enjoy my free time with nature, and didn't know how it works. Even though I am temporarily staying in South Korea now, I can't wait going back to Canada. I love to enjoy their nature and want to be one kind of nature with them.
